Foster Families

Foster care parents are your neighbors, your bus drivers, your Sunday school volunteers, your basketball coach…and yet life in a foster home is a mystery to most. Foster parents face the same challenges as typical families in raising their children, parenting boundaries, behavior challenges, educational obstacles, etc. Locating services, finding support, and accessing resources is often a maze for even the most experienced, most educated, and most driven parent. Add to that the additional challenges of coping with a lack of history of the child, missing or lost medical records, working with multiple public service agencies, multiple service providers, birth families, specialized physicians, therapists, school systems, and legal systems…the task of providing care can be daunting.

FACES of Virginia Families strives to offer support, resources, and information to foster families. We want to hear about your challenges as well as your successes in providing care for your children. We want to support you in advocating for your foster children and developing collaborative initiatives with partnering organizations to improve outcomes for children. We want to provide foster families with a voice as well as an ear.

As FACES grows, we will promote the recruitment and retention of foster parents, support the development of regional/local support groups, and advocate for high-quality training for foster parents. We want to ensure that your voice is heard, that your input is valued, and that your concerns are addressed. We want to help you do a better job and help you to be recognized and respected for the role you play in serving Virginia’s children.
